Anchorage

Anchorage is an eastern Jefferson county town founded in the 1840s by Edward D. Hobbs, president of the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad.Formerly a summer retreat, Anchorage is now the full-time residence for nearly 2,500 people. But the area has retained its charm; designated as a historic district by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Anchorage boasts Victorian homes on large lots.

The post office opened as Hobbs Station in 1865, but was renamed Anchorage in 1872 for the home of James W. Goslee, a retired riverboat captain. Local tradition says the community was named for captain James W. Goslee, who removed the anchor from his boat and planted it in his front yard.

Anchorage was on the list of American's 250 "Richest Towns," as compiled by Worth magazine.
